An absolutely spectacular day on our favorite section of the Manistee! Wilgus', Marcussen's & guest Mike Villo had an early start & finish, passing just a few fishers & campers along the way, and enjoying the bouncy riffles. We spied a mink, a muskrat, and an eagle, along with quite a few blue herons, kingfishers, a gang of teen Mergansers, and turtles, plus a pair of redstarts at the take-out, thanks to Paul's spotting skills. Irene took some great photos, which are posted on the club's Facebok page.

We had an absolutely great warm, intermittently sunny and windy day on the river. The weatherpersons had forecast no wind or clouds, but with upper 50's, it was almost perfect and for this early in the season there were no downed trees across the river from the winter storms or portages to do. We had Mike, Jocelyn, Susan, Marlene, Sara, Paul and Irene. Perfect. We saw 2 Eagles and very little trash. We had 3 canoes and 4 kayaks.

An enjoyable paddle on a sunny, blue sky day. Unseasonably warm temperatures provided a great opportunity to get together for a fun day. Our group experienced a headwind and even a few small white caps at the opening into Loon Lake, causing us to head toward the west shoreline to reach calm waters. We observed a numerous beaver chews along the shoreline and well as a pair of Red Shouldered hawks performing their flight mating ritual. (Thank you, Paul M, for recognizing this ritual)

Thirty of us gathered at Bradley's in Interlochen for the end-of-the season gathering. Club officers reported all is well, and all Board members signed on for the next year. Several awards and prizes were given. Bradley's accommodated individual bills. And a slide show from the season ran throughout on the overhead TV.
Tragically Lois and John were killed while driving home from this, their last paddle. Their memory will be with us on future paddles with stories told and retold, and they will always be missed.
