Braving temperatures sometimes hot enough to soften chocolate and winds ferocious enough to rustle leaves, our intrepid team descended the torrents of the Pine River from Elm Flats to Peterson. Although we passed constant signs of the recent storms and damage, Mark Miltner beautifully cleared the river. The river level was very comfortable and even the rapids above Peterson were a bit milder than I am used to seeing them. The river was in better shape than I had expected, given the recent floods, but there is still adequate work for the clean-up crew. My informal survey gave me the impression that the dominant Aluminus Containerae flower was the seasonal blue iridescent Bud Light. I anxiously await a proper survey report after the cleanup. We thank John and Lois for arranging yet another delightful day of paddling.
