June 26 - High & Fast Pine, Dobson to Low Bridge

Published on 6/26/2014
The Pine was high (4.6 ft) & fast (432 cfs vs 250) after recent rains, so lucky us!

We had 4 Wenonah solo canoes, 2 Sandpiper (Bob F & Sara), 2 Argosy (Jack & John W) & 3 kayaks (Susan, Gerald & Michael). Pine River Paddlesports shuttled us from our take-out at Low Bridge to our put-int at Dobson Bridge. From there, we enjoyed maneuvering around the many bends in the river & riding the riffles. We stopped at Peterson Bridge access for lunch. Soon thereafter, we encountered some young people hanging onto a swamped canoe. Susan, Gerald & John W assisted until Mark Miltner & Jake from PRPS arrived, just in time to finish the rescue.

BTW, from Peterson to Low is a whole new river, almost unrecognizable from years past. If you enjoyed paddling class I "Pinball", that rapid  is now gone, only a boulder in the river! Such changes, after a bountiful winter of snow & abundant spring rain!

Everyday on the Pine is a GR-R-REAT day for me, one of my 2 favorite rivers. I waited a month to allow time for my recovery & was tired but overjoyed to be able to paddle it already! Come join me on Tues on the Sturgeon, my other favorite, yippee!
