This trip on the Pine begins at the Walker Bridge access and ends at Dobson Bridge. You will need to have a vehicle permit ($5 per day if you don't have an annual pass) but no watercraft permit (they aren't required after Labor Day). Given the possibility of tight turns and downed trees, you must be able to maneuver your boat sideways across the stream using back ferries. If you are not comfortable making quick turns, it's best to wait until next summer to learn the skills that will allow you to control your boat in fast moving current.
We'll meet in the morning, do the shuttle and then head downstream. The kind folks at Pine River Paddlesports Center will assist with the shuttle. Paddling time should be about 4 hours, with a break for a leisurely lunch at Elm Flats. Hopefully it should be a peaceful float, with good opportunities for photos of the fall colors along the river banks.
