This is perhaps the prettiest section of the Big Manistee, just south of Kingsley, with majestic scenery on both sides. We will pass below the High Rollways and the observation platform above, alongside the North Country National Scenic Trail. There is little development along the banks and the views of the hills alongside the river are truly spectacular. We may see a bit of early fall color.
Manistee River (Baxter Bridge)
Head south of TC to the town of Kingsley. From the main intersection in town (Garfield / County 611 and M-113), drive one mile east, then turn right (south) in Summit City Road. Drive five miles, and then follow the blacktop as you turn right (west) onto County Line Road. After ½ mile, turn left (south) onto 29 ½ Road. Within 1 ½ miles, you will see Baxter Bridge. Do not go across the river, but turn right to the river access just north of the bridge. Coordinates: 44.493021,-85.52761 Map to Baxter Bridge
