SPECIAL EVENT!! Combined Boardman River Downtown Cleanup
September 27, 2014 - Hannah Lay Park on 6th Street and Union. St. - 9:00am
The BRCS has been trying for years to get the downtown section of the river clean and have it remain that way during the year. Nothing has worked for so many reasons and I finally decided that we have to do something different because what we have done in the past just isn't working.
I have met with the coordinator for the Homeless Outreach from the Goodwill Inn and we have come up with a plan to have a few selected homeless people assist us with our downtown initiative.
This will be a KICKOFF Event with the hope that it will continue throughout the year where the homeless will work to keep the river and the banks clean as some do roads - a sort of Adopt a River program for the homeless of downtown Traverse City.
For their work, they will receive benefits (not money) that will help them in ways that the Goodwill Inn does for them on a ongoing basis.
An "after-picnic" is planned.
Many of these people are responsible citizens who, after you meet and talk to them, are much like us. They have had troubles that make them homeless and they deserve a chance to make a difference just as we do.
Please sign up and join this community effort to make the downtown section of the Boardman River just as pretty as the upstream sections are.
