Note from the trip host:
I’m not sure how many of you have experienced the Pigeon River recently, but here’s the link to the trip report from our adventure there last year:

As you can see, there was a lot of getting in and out of the water that day.  Obviously it is a summer river.  BUT - the forecast for Sunday is not at all summery, with highs not reaching 70, and a possibility of a bit of rain.  John & I have discussed the situation and we don’t think this would be a fun experience in such cool temps.

So…we are going to reschedule the Pigeon trip for Saturday August 12.  It’s a ways off, but we are busy with other trips (and so are many of you!), our trip to Marquette for the NCTA conference and John’s trip to a recumbent rally.  We will hope for real summer weather that day.

In the meantime, we know that many TAPC members were interested in a river trip on Sunday, so we will host one on the Boardman, from Scheck’s to Shumsky.  We will run the shuttle at 9:30, and be done before lunchtime.  Also relevant is the fact that the West Michigan meetup group is planning a trip from the Forks to BBL Sunday from 11 to 3, with (wait for this one) 38 people!  We would be long gone by the time they bring their hordes to the river, and we will not be using the accesses that they will be filling up.

Escape the fudgies, and head north to the Pigeon River, a quiet refuge courtesy of Mother Nature.

The Pigeon River is a narrow twisty river a few miles east of Wolverine.  It is not serviced by outfitters, so it is likely that there will be some obstructions in the river, and therefore we will probably have to portage around, and climb over or under the obstacles.  If you have a pruning saw, bring it!  This trip is not for the faint-of-heart.  The water is very clear, and it has quite a remote feeling.

It's a long drive from TC (about 1:45 from Acme), but we feel it's worth it to find a pretty stream that isn't crowded on a summer Saturday.  This section of the Pigeon has virtually no development, and will probably not have any other users.

Here's a link to the map
