Brown Bridge Planting Days
Brown Bridge Quiet Area - Volunteer Planting Days
Organized by: Grand Traverse Conservation District
Date: Wednesday, April 29th, and Saturday, May 2nd 2015
Time: 9:00-3:30pm – (A light snack and water provided)
Location: Brown Bridge Quiet Area - East Overlook
The upper stretches of the "new" river at Brown Bridge need your help! This area was dredged to re-locate the original channel lost under tons of sediment that accumulated over the 90 years Brown Bridge Dam was in place. Volunteers are needed to assist with planting over 3,000 native tree & shrub seedlings to help reestablish a healthy riparian corridor & stabilize the banks of the river.
Volunteers should to be fit enough to walk on uneven ground and possibly mucky soils. They will walk up and down steep banks using steps.
- We’ll meet at 9:00 am at the East Overlook. We’ll hike down to the bottomlands from there.
- We’ll ferry some folks across to the other side of the river so we have people planting on both sides.
- Bring footwear you don’t mind getting wet or muddy.
- Bring gloves, and a shovel if you have one.
- Work will continue to around 3:00. But, obviously, people can come and go as they wish.
- We’ll supply water and a light snack (energy bars, apples, etc…), but if someone feels they need more to eat they should bring a lunch.
