South Branch AuSable River - Debris Dismantling

( Rain Delayed From August 19th, 2013 )

Aug 26, 2014 - 9:00am

As you know, when we did the cleanup on the S Br, we found some surprisingly large flood debris.

My son, David, and I went back and took photos and got GPS locations of the pieces.

Here are photos and map locations for each piece of debris.

http://www.brcleansweep.org/Misc/BRCS-South-Branch-2014-Debris/index.html

Basically, there are 7 pieces in the river.  (No photo of #77)

3 above the Castle.

1 at the Castle

3 above the Chapel.  (None after the Chapel)

We are working with the Anglers of the AuSable and the City of Grayling to remove these 7 pieces of debris. Their cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 6th.

Our plan is to go over on the 19th and dismantle the 7 pieces.  We will not be picking up cans and bottles.   We may move some of the smaller ones to the Castle if we have enough boats and people.

We will try to take the first four pieces to the Castle and leave the remaining 3 in piles at their original sites.

We need people in tandem canoes to carry stuff.  We will bring our BRCS canoes, so you may not need to bring a boat.  That will help with the shuttle.  No kayaks or small solo canoes for this project.

On the 6th, the AofA crews will come with "long boats" and trailers and take the remaining piles of debris out to the Castle and Smith Bridge.  They have the keys to the gates at the Castle and can drive down to get the debris with trailers,  We can't.

Then they will have a party at The Gates Lodge on Stephan Bridge Rd with free food and beer.

We are welcome to come on the 6th for that part of the project, too.

I am excited to be working with the Anglers of the AuSable and I hope you can join us for this project.
