This is a 21 to 23 mile paddle starting at Chase Bridge on the South Branch, proceeding through the Mason Tract past Smith Bridge, continuing up to the confluence with the Mainstream, and terminating at McMasters Bridge.  Approximate time:  6 hours.  It is recommended for experienced paddlers only due to the length of the trip.  A 4 mph paddling pace is expected to be maintained.  This would normally be classified as an "easy" river, but I have classified it "intermediate" due to the length of the paddle.

Two stops are scheduled:  Canoe Harbor at approximately 2 1/2 hrs and Conners Flats at approximately 5 hrs.  Times may vary based on conditions and group progress.  This is NOT a float, but is a very enjoyable paddle through cedar swamps and high banks on one of North America's finest trout streams.

Expect slow current from Chase Bridge to Canoe Harbor, moderate current from Canoe Harbor to the confluence with the Mainstream, flat water from the confluence to Conners Flats, and moderate current from Conners Flats to McMasters Bridge.

We will meet at McMasters Bridge at 9 AM, load up boats and gear on Paddle Brave transport, leave all cars at McMasters and proceed to the put in at Chase Bridge.  We should be on the water by 10 AM.

Directions to McMasters Bridge:  Head East out of Grayling on M72 for approximately 16 miles to McMasters Bridge Rd.  Turn LEFT on to McMasters Bridge Rd and go approximately 5 miles to the landing which is on the RIGHT hand side of the road.  If you cross the river you've missed the turn to the landing.
