The forecast for the Pine River area is not good for 9/11 (it's not fun trash-picking in thunderstorms), so we have moved the trip to 9/13.

September 11 has been designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance.  Each year, more than 1 million Americans are expected to serve in their communities in honor of 9/11. Service projects will range from food drives and home repairs to neighborhood cleanups and disaster preparation activities. Here's what the Traverse Area Paddle Club is doing that day.

We will be paddling between Peterson and Low Bridge.  The rangers have provided us with vehicle permits.  No watercraft permits are required after Labor Day.  This will be our third cleanup trip on this section this season, so maybe we won't find much stuff.  But it does occur after Labor Day, so who knows?

The meeting time will be sent with your e-mail confirmation.  We will use the kind folks at Pine River Paddlesports Center to help us with the shuttle. Paddling time should be about 5 hours.  We might spot some early fall colors, and maybe some wildlife too.

Given the possibility of tight turns and downed trees, you will need to be able to maneuver your boat sideways across the stream using back ferries.  If you are not comfortable making quick turns, it's best to get some practice on an easier river before tackling the Pine.
