Upper Manistee River Clean Sweep - Sept. 24 / 28, 2011

The planning for this event was difficult since it had never been done before.

The day arrived and it was raining pretty hard.  I didn't want to put the 4-H kids out on the river in the rain so I canceled.

THEY WENT ANYWAY!  That sure made me feel dumb.

Here are some pictures from their trip.

So, on the next Wednesday, Karl and I joined forces to paddle tandem in a donated BRCS canoe to complete the task.

It was raining on the way over to Yellow Trees but it quit just as we got on the river at Hole In The Wall Landing.

We were not disappointed.  The river was remarkably clean and quite gorgeous.  No wind and no rain.  I fly fished a bit without any positive results.  Karl is an accomplished paddler and it was really nice to have him in the stern.

We got about 1/2 a bag of trash and we had to search for that.

Was it worth it?  YES!!!!  I can't remember a more enjoyable day on the river.

We'll do it again next year for sure and at the same time of year.  Maybe we'll get better weather next time.
